Polyart(No Ads)
[This hands-on preview was written after playing the PC version of the game.]Cadence is the type of game I'd play when in need of some musical meditation, which is quite often these days, let me tell you.

It's a combination of abstract musical toy and audio-based puzzler. At its best, its soft concordant notes have it become something indescribably ethereal.

If you play it in the wrong mood, though, it risks being an irritating puzzle game that doesn't give you enough of a helping hand. It's a risk worth taking, I think.

At the centre of Cadence is the goal of achieving harmonious synchronisation. You're given a 3D diagram of nodes and can draw thick black, gloopy lines between them. It reminds me of the stringy blobs in World of Goo.

Early on, you learn that cone-shaped nodes direct sounds in the direction they're pointing. You have to keep that in mind when connecting the dots, as it were.

When ready, you hit the trigger and it sends out a note that bounces around your web. If you made the right connections a celestial audio loop plays forever. It also draws its shape infinitely into the space around it.

You move on to the next level only after you've absorbed all the pleasure this cadence has to offer.

Get it wrong, however, and either your sounds will collide and short circuit, or you'll blow up a couple of the nodes with the excess energy.

It's a game that you pick up quickly and will wonder where the challenge is to start off with; it's very simple. That doesn't matter too much as it's easy to get comfortable and enjoy it.

As you'd hope, though, more nodes are soon added: absorbing notes, splitting them up, bouncing them backwards, transferring them through portals.

"Well, I never was much hand for weeping, Mrs. Doctor, dear. I would rather fall to and cheer people up than weep with them. Now, do not you cry and spoil your pretty eyes. This house is very well and has served your turn, but it is high time you had a better."
Pokemon Masters producer Yu Sasaki has released his third message to players as they detail their continued efforts to improve the game. The latest statement focuses on the plans they have through November and December.

As mentioned in the original roadmap their main focus in November is changing how much players are rewarded for various events. The Caitlin and Reuniclus event that is currently available has actually been the start of this, where the number of gems you can earn in total has been increased by 900. That's three more Sync Pair Scout pulls just for completing a fairly easy event.

This increased gem earning potential has extended to the Ice-Type Training Event that will start on 14th November where you will earn a further 600 gems for completing all associated missions. Additionally, as we mentioned earlier this week, you'll be able to get 4200 if you log-in every day this month.

In mid-November, there will also be a new rally event that will announce their progress as they hit certain milestones. More importantly, though, there's an additional log-in bonus for more gems and items as well as gems for hitting those milestones.
Need friends in Pokémon Masters? Share your friend codes here!
When December rolls around the level cap limit for all sync pairs will be unlocked, making the new limit 120. To account for this a new difficulty category will be added to course so you can get the required items to hit this cap. The rewards for Very Hard and Super Hard course are also going to be altered slightly.

There will also be a new event in early December that will see the arrival of a Trainer who uses a Legendary Pokemon. They will be scoutable by taking part in the event. I'm hoping it's Tobias and Darkrai personally, though he's only appeared in the anime to my knowledge, so it seems unlikely.

Additional December updates will see the addition of daily vouchers that can be exchanged to strengthen Sync Pairs, Weekly bingo missions and a Sync Pair viewing feature. I'm sure we'll get more details on what those specifically are nearer the time.

Finally, we also learned that the difficulty of EX Challenges will be adjusted so that you're not forced to using specific Sync Pairs. In terms of singleplayer content, they are also planning to add a new mode called Battle Villa in February, that will apparently provide a different battle experience.

Pokemon Masters is available now on the App Store and Google Play. It is a free-to-play game with in-app purchases.
Check out our news section to discover the latest, and greatest, games.
